The history of poker has been debated heavily over the years. Today, it is a wildly popular game, but its origins are not known by many. It is likely that the name “poker” came from the French word “poque,” which evolved out of the German word “pochen” (which means “to knock”). However, some historians doubt that the origins of poker are the same as those games bearing similar names. The Persian game “as nas” is very similar to poker. The Persian game may have been taught to the French settlers in New Orleans by Persian sailors. Additionally, poker has been connected with the game “primero” which was popular in the Renaissance. Bluffing was incorporated in the English game “brag.”
An English actor by the name of Joseph Corwell said that the game was played in the city of New Orleans in 1829 with a deck that had 20 cards. The game spread to the rest of the United States by way of the Mississippi riverboats that traveled up and down the Mississippi frequently. Gambling was very popular during riverboat trips.
After poker spread, the game started to incorporate a 52-card English deck. After the deck change, the flush was introduced. Draw poker, stud poker, and the straight were all introduced to poker during the Civil War. The wild card was developed around 1875 in America. Lowball and split-pot poker followed suit in about 1900. The U.S. military spread poker to many countries, including Asian countries.
Poker tournaments became popular after the World Series of Poker began in Las Vegas in 1970. American casinos have had poker tournaments and tables ever since. During the seventies, strategy books first became available. The first two of these types of books were “Super System” by Doyle Brunson and “The Book of Tells” by Mike Caro.
In recent years, poker has gained massive popularity for two reasons. The first reason is the introduction of online poker. There are many online poker sites today, and millions of people from around the world log on every day to play poker. The second reason that poker has become vastly popular is because of the introduction of the hole-card camera. This camera has turned the game into a spectator sport. The World Series of Poker is frequently on ESPN and has had a rapid increase in registrants in recent years.

Resistance of Seedlings and Nursery Stock to Deer Damage
…Selection is the Ultimate Weapon
Damage to seedlings by deer will increase as it has over the
past 20 years. We don’t believe that there are any 100 per cent
effective methods to stop deer damage except 10′ high woven wire
fences that are to costly for most small growers and homeowners.
Human populations moving to rural areas will continue. Loss of
huntable land will increase as will deer populations. Deer
having multiple births coupled with increasing gun regulation is
likly to continue.
There are few natural controls for deer populations especially
in urban areas. Opening your land to hunting is an effective
practice for lowering deer populations. Since deer are
nocturnal, hunting may not be totally effective. This means that
you must have an integrated pest management plan. This plan
should include the following: popualtion management(hunting),
repellants, selecting resistant plants, fencing, knowledge of
deer habits for integrating your management plan.
Deer feeding will occur on fertilized and unfertilize plants.
Most browsing of seedlings will occur at night. By planting
less-preferred seedlings in unprotected areas and surrounding
preferred seedlings by less-preferred seedlings, deer damage is
lessened. Susceptible plants shoud be fenced or planted near
occupied structures. Backyard dogs are effective in keeping deer
away.Your knowledge of deer feeding habits should be your first
line of defence. A plan based on this knowledge will provide
seedlings growers with less expensive alternatives to dangerous
chemiacls repellants and hard to maintain fences and physical
barriers. Deer are creatures of habit. Deer are not going search
in the woods for scarce food when it is available in quanity and
quality in your back yard. Once they find easy to browse plants
in your landscape, they will become like giant rats invading you
backyard at night. They will return night after night and eat
you nursery stock until it is gone. Some deer in certain areas
will eat holly and white pines, while deer in other areas won’t.
Therefore plant preference lists are only rough guides to deer
damage susceptibility.
In general browsing damage to nursery stock will be highest
when snow or extreme weather reduces food availability.
Succulent young growth is an attractive deer food source in the
spring time. When food is in short supply deer will feed on less
desireable plants. Deer eat a variety of vegetation including
woody plants, fruits, nuts, ornamental trees, shrubs, vines,
grasses, and garden vegetables. Landscaping based deer feeding
habits will reduce or eliminate costly browsing damage to your
nursery stock and ornamentals.
Always try and reduce deer herds. Fewer deer mean less browsing
pressure. We once had a deer hunt where hunters paid 100 dollars
each to a police gun fund for the control of deer on our nursery
that is located next to Peace Valley Park. For weeks the control
worked and deer damage was controlled.
Some people use soap bars. Leave the soap in its wrapper and
drill a hole thru the bar. Attach the soap bar with twine to a
branch and allow it to hang 3-4′ off the ground. Hang the bar
away from the center of the tree. This will act as a natural
repellant for deer. Use multiple bars for large nursery stock
and trees.
Seedlings and Liners We Recommend
Boxwoods Red Osier Dogwood Russian Olive Rose of Sharon Hollies
Leucothoe River Birch Trees Japanese Cedars Blue Spruce trees
Austrin Pine Barberries Andromeda
We feel that any plan to control deer damage to your landscape
should begin with plants that are know to be deer resistant. It
is the ultimate weapon in discouraging deer from eating your
plants. Proper selection is not 100% effective but it goes a
long way towards protecting your investment. You can see more of

What would it be worth to you if you could predict the buying trends over the next year. How about even the next few weeks? By using the principles of the Maslow hierarchy of needs, you can use the news to predict what your customers will be buying in the future.
Early in his career, Abraham Maslow noticed that certain things were much more important to have than others. For instance, water is more important to have than food. Because you would die of thirst within a few days, but most people would live over a month without food. On the other hand, you would die within a couple of minutes without oxygen. So, air is much more important than water.
You may be wondering what this has to do with marketing. Well, hang in there. When the reality hits you, it will be worth the wait.
Maslow also noticed that there was a regular order to needs that were added when people had enough of the basic necessities. The first level of needs he labeled as physiological (basic needs for body function) needs. When those needs were taken care of, people would then want to take care of safety needs.Safety needs consist of things like a safe environment, protection and stable government. These are the needs that keep you having anxiety and fear.
The next level of needs are those dealing with love and belonging. These are things like friends, a life mate and children. But, if you lose your safety or your basic body needs, you may not worry about your family and friends until those needs are taken care of.
If your needs of love and belonging are met, you then would tend to try and get your needs for esteem met. These needs include such things as fame, recognition and reputation. These esteem needs include not only what other people think of you, but that you think of yourself.
The final level is different than the previous four. It involves the desire to ‘be all that you can be’. This is the level where people try to maximize their potential. It is called the self-actualization level.
Now comes the payoff. How can you use this knowledge to predict buying patterns? Well, you may have already figured it out. If not, get ready for a big payoff.
As an example, think of the events of 9/11. On that day, the world changed. There was an immediate realization of the threat to all civilized nations. At that point, the needs on many minds were those primarily of safety.
You can probably think of what you would want to market because of that change. There would be a big demand on things that would improve people’s safety. Demand for everything from training of security personnel to personal firearms increased.
Because of where the need for safety is placed in the hierarchy, there was no real change in the demand for food and water - or clean air for that matter.
However, consider what was not - in no way - on anyone’s mind at that point. Things like art classes and even politics took a back seat to the basic need for safety.
By keeping track of current events and public opinion, you can predict to a great extent what people are going to be spending their time and money on. When things are going very well, they will tend to spend more money - sometimes huge amounts - on things higher up the pyramid.
So, here is the rule. When things are going bad. Market things in the layer of the hierarchy where people feel their need. When things are going well, put more emphasis on marketing things that appeal to the more self satisfying side of people.

As the end of summer approaches, unfortunately far too quickly, all is not lost for gardening with some great ideas on bringing a piece of your garden indoors and creating a winter garden.
Studies have shown that as the year progresses the less sunlight and more dreary days we have, the more depressed we feel. Of course one of the best ideas is to take a trip to a sunny hot location, but that not being a choice for all of us or even in addition to taking a holiday you can create a winter garden. And the great part is, winter gardening doesn’t need to take up a lot of room in your house or apartment, it can be created in many ways to give that boost when you need it most!
The space you make for yourself should, if at all possible include a comfortable chair and some place to keep your plants. You can also add a bright picture of outdoors and a lamp (see further down for the types of lamps you can use).
Terrarium gardens can be an inexpensive way to start your winter garden. Start with a clear fish tank or fishbowl, place some colorful rocks, stones or marbles at the bottom and then add your plants. Depending on the size of your container you can plant a variety of plants and flowers, or if you prefer you can plant some flower bulbs. It is recommended that you plant at least one or two bright colored flower, just because of the color enhancement.
A herb garden is another way to bring your garden indoors for the winter and can even be transplanted outdoors if you chose to do so. The advantage to having a herb garden is that you can add fresh herbs to your favorite recipes! Try to keep your herb garden where it is going to get some natural light if possible; a great place is a windowsill. Buy a container that will fit on your windowsill or multiple pots, allowing some room for root growth.
When choosing the lighting for your indoor garden, try to choose one that will give the maximum sunlight like quality. There are lamps available on the market that simulate daylight and are used for people that have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorders) they provide a natural sunlight for health and well being. Light therapy is an effective and safe treatment for SAD, and although it is not fully understood why, it is a great natural remedy and well worth trying. They are fairly inexpensive, starting around 50 dollars US.
Don’t think of summer coming to an end as the end of your gardening season; simply convert your summer garden outdoors to a piece of sunshine indoors with your winter garden.

Each year in NSW you will need to get ctp (compulsory third party) car insurance or what is otherwise known as a greenslip.
Your ctp greenslip usually covers you as a driver in the case of third party property or third party person damage. So this means that if you hurt someone else on the road (and it was your fault), your greenslip should cover their health bills. It also means that if you damage someone elses car or property your ctp insurer will cover that as well (beyond a normal excess fee of course).
So it follows logically that in order to work out how much your greenslip insurance will cost each year the insurance companies want to know how much of a risk you are of damaging other people’s health or property when you’re driving on the roads.
In order to assess this the insurance companies will look at your current situation and assign weightings (each company weighs factors slightly differently) to the factors in order to determine what your ctp greenslip will cost for this year.
Some of the factors that your insurance company will consider are:
- The driver’s age - this is important because, statistically, younger drivers are more likely to have accidents due to their inexperience behind the wheel. Remember that your potential ctp insurer will want to know the age of the youngest driver who frequently drives the car. If you only give them the age of the oldest driver, it may void or otherwise impair the ctp insurance policy (meaning you may have to pay a much bigger excess if a younger driver is involved in an accident)
- The driver’s gender - this is important because, statistically, men have more accidents than women. Now admittedly, this one is difficult to change when you’re getting your greenslip insurance!
- How long the driver has held their license - this is important because, even if the main driver is 35 years old, if they’ve only held their license for 6 months they will be in a much higher risk category than someone who is 35 and has held their license since they were 18.
- How many accidents the driver has had in the past (where it was the driver who was at fault) - this is important because the insurance companies basically figure if you have had one or more accidents in the past then you are more likely to have more in the future. They will look at your previous track record as it is one of the major things they have to go on.
Now these things can seem difficult to change however if you shop around between the different insurers that offer NSW ctp greenslip insurance you will find that there can be quite significant price differences because they will assign different weights to each of the factors.

Enjoying a good life is common to us all. We all want the same things, good health, positive relationships, fulfilling career, and enough money to live comfortably. But, there are others that want a life of abundance and prosperity. These are the ones that have dreams of doing great things, having successful businesses, visiting interesting places, meeting extraordinary people, and having the ability to help others financially.
If you are going to enjoy a life of abundance and prosperity it will require some action. This should be obvious. But, sometimes the obvious is frequently overlooked.
You didn’t get to where you are today without taking some sort of action. So, it makes sense that if you have a vision in your head about where you would like to be in the future, it will require action.
The problem with most people is, even though they may have the knowledge to do some particular thing, they lack putting the necessary action behind that knowledge.
We often hear that “knowledge is power.” But, knowledge is really only power in reserve. It remains useless if it’s not tapped into by applying action. Knowledge that is not put to action remains just knowledge in your head and provides no benefit. It’s completely wasted.
To accomplish results, we must couple our knowledge with the necessary action to attain results. The formula for achieving results is: Knowledge Action = Result. If you were to apply massive action to your knowledge, it would have a faster, and even greater impact on your life.
Why is it that most people find it difficult to put the necessary action behind their knowledge? I believe it is nothing more than a lack of belief.
Your belief system is the driving force behind your behaviors and your results. If you can change your beliefs, you will change your behaviors. When you change your behaviors, you will change your results. Then, when you change your results, you will change your life.
It all starts with your belief system. Jesus said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23).
Now, many things can keep one from believing. But, I think the biggest factor that keeps one from believing is fear. It is a fact that it takes courage to succeed. But, keep in mind that courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the ability to press on despite the presence of fear. Many times, the solution to any fear is simply to do the thing you fear. It’s amazing how the fear will disappear!
The smallest of actions, even the ones that seem trivial and insignificant, can lead to great success. It’s been said that, “Actions, like pictures, are worth a thousand words.”
Without action, you could have the greatest idea and the greatest plan in the world and you would still fail. Whereas a modest idea and an incomplete plan often produces success when accompanied by enough action.
You just got to get moving. Sir Isaac Newton’s principle that states a “body at rest tends to remain at rest and a body in motion tends to remain in motion,” definitely applies to the action principle. Once you’ve taken the first step, the next steps seem easier to take.
It’s a natural law that if you do nothing, nothing will happen; if you take minimum action, results are going to be minimal; but, if you take massive action, then you will be rewarded with massive results.Hugely successful people, the kind who go from mediocre to millions almost overnight, know that the major key to their success was taking massive action.
If you want to become hugely successful you must start at the beginning. Most beginnings are small, and appear trivial and insignificant, but in reality they are extremely important.
It’s not only the right beginning that is important, it’s beginning in the first place. It’s about applying that powerful little six-letter-word called “action.”

In a health conscious world it is easier to spot symptoms of diabetes in the early stages, which is known as pre-diabetes. Discovering and taking notice of early diabetic signs gives you a fighting chance of preventing diabetes altogether. Look out for these 8 pre-diabetes symptoms…
If you have two or more of these pre-diabetes symptoms you should seriously consider getting yourself checked out:
1) If you find you are excessively thirsty, not just after extreme exercise or hot weather.
2) You seem to constantly have a dry mouth - even if you’ve just had a drink.
3) You find you are having to urinate frequently.
4) You have unexpected weight loss (even though you may be constantly hungry and eating well. Of course you may be eating the wrong things which would probably make your pre-diabetes symptom worse).
5) You feel lethargic; as if you’ve got no energy; weak and tired all the time.
6) Sometimes your vision is blurry - be careful, untreated eye problems caused through diabetes can lead to blindness.
7) You have cuts or sores (especially on your feet) that are slow to heal.
Excessive itching or soreness in the genital area or yeast infections (which can be misdiagnosed as thrush).
If you are aged over 45 and are overweight it would be advisable to have a diabetes check.

Cash for structured settlement payment is an individualized plan to help you take cares over present and future expenses. It is important to make a proper payment schedule keeping in mind your future requirements. A hasty decision may spell disaster, as your funds may fall short of your expectancy. For that reason, it would be better to opt for the services of an experienced attorney to ascertain the structured settlement payment. Make sure that the amount you receive periodically is calculated to provide you with an income over a fixed period of time.
Investment in Structured Settlements
You may buy a structured settlement payment as an investment. It can also be provided as a compensatory payment to an injured person. Therefore, normally, these structured settlements can be used to receive payments at certain intervals or sold by parts. They can also be sold to receive a lump sum amount as full and final settlement. All depends on the needs of the recipient. If the recipient has planned to invest in a big project like buying a property, a lump sum payment will be the best option. On the other hand, if the money is required over a long period of time at short intervals, structured settlement payments can be beneficial.
People generally opt for structured settlements lump sum cash payment when they have a pressing need, where they may need money to pay off medical or legal bills. In case of personal injury, the settlement payment should not only cover the medical expenses, but also family expenses related to daily life of the injured.
Consulting Professionals Helps in Making the Right Investment Decision
It is always advisable to consult attorneys, accountants and settlement brokers before buying structured settlement. Brokers are considered better consultants than attorneys because of their extensive experience in this field. Since brokers are in contact with the market, they can provide the details of different offers, which may be keenly considered before finalizing a structured settlement investment. You may look into the details of each offer, compare all the terms, and then arrive at a decision. Make sure that your broker offers you proper advice on the current deals in the market, and which deal will suit you the best under the circumstances.
Brokers can also help you sell structured insurance settlements by negotiating with the other party for maximum benefits in the settlement. However, your final step in getting the best deal should include a consultation with an objective party such as a CPA.
If you are looking for periodic payments, mainly for investment purposes, then look for the most beneficial deal that you can lay your hands on. It will help you cover the required expenses for a long time, provided you buy the most ideal structured settlement annuity through an experienced broker. Structured settlement payments are most suitable for minors until they reach the consenting age and are able to handle large sums of money.
