Great flavor without sugar - amazing. Energizing. Need I say more? Learn and earn with the efusjon ‘a’ team at startup4less.com. They are growing fast and willing to help and teach you regularly. I haven’t ever seen anything like this. I normally don’t push an opportunity but I have to say that I joined earlier this week and you should too. Go!

Splitters

Storing a big machine like a splitter can be tough. Store your outdoor machinery under a heavy duty tarp or in a shed. Keep it clean - the splitter. You will walk away from the site educated and informed more than you might want. Compare and review the guides on this site before buying a log splitter.

Okay! That’s a wrap.

Cedar Garden Furniture

A great style of wood for the outdoors, cedar is a hardwood native to North America which is used to make great cedar garden furniture. Typically, this furniture is made from a clear grade western red cedar. A major factor that has to be taken into consideration when buying garden furniture is whether or not the product can survive in the sun and the rain. Among other climate considerations in picking out garden furniture are the snow, sleet, and hail that are frequently found in the northern region of the United States.

Western red cedar helps combat these issues because it contains oil that acts as a natural preservative which helps the wood resist rot. When the first piece made from this material - Adirondack Chair - was produced, it was widely desired by many across the United States. The government saw the durability of this inexpensive wood used to make the chair and finally decided that they wanted cedar benches that were usable in parks. The depression era brought forth the creation of many of these benches by people who worked on the WPA. The WPA was a program created by President Roosevelt to help those who were left unemployed by the Great Depression. Many park benches were made from cedar trees during this time and men from the WPA would go into the forest to cut down the trees as part of their work program.

Another item popularly made from cedar was chests as these were a good way to store items as they prevent mold and mildew. Cedar chests were often preferred by sailors on long trips. By combining the material with pine, cedar made a great material for coffins for the deceased, as well. Some doctors in England (where plague had killed many) remarked that if they could bury those affected in cedar coffins it would prevent the spread of the deadly disease. Because of the many abilities and uses of cedar, the wood has been used in many products.

For today’s purpose, many people use cedar for cedar garden furniture to help beautify their outside landscape. The durability of the wood makes it a popularly requested wood for many well-to-do Americans to request to be inlaid in their patios and gardens. Many people are able to find items like serving trays and carts, and other accessories that are made from cedar as well with the stores Wal-Mart and Target being good places to find such items. Two department stores that sell cedar garden furniture are Sears and J.C.Pennies fairly inexpensively but many other places do as well. Many people prefer to shop online, and for those shoppers, pieces can be bought through The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company. A great feature of The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company is that they will make pieces of furniture that match your specific requests.

Feng Shui In the Garden

Spring is finally here, thanks be, and it’s time to get outside and enjoy the sun and the greenery. Whether you live in a tiny apartment or on a sprawling estate, incorporating Feng Shui into your garden can enliven your experience, helping you bring a deeper level of joy and peace into your life.

Feng Shui (pronounced “fung shway”) is the practice of bringing our lives into harmonious relationship with our surroundings. A great way to get started is to create living spaces that reflect back to you the qualities you would like to have in your life. These spaces act as physical, living affirmations of who you want to be and how you want to live.

The garden is a wonderful place to do this, because it represents a deep, instinctive connection to the Earth and all of Nature. No matter how technological our lives have become, a part of us still yearns to be connected to the Source.

Those of you without a green thumb, don’t panic! There are many kinds of gardens. There are Zen gardens of stone and bamboo, water gardens (an aquarium counts), patios with pots of plants, window boxes, vegetable gardens, flower gardens… the list goes on and on. The point is that there’s a garden for everyone, the possibilities confined only by the limits of your imagination.

Whatever kind of garden you choose, here are some basic Feng Shui principles to get you started on the right track this year:

Number one, the Prime Directive: Live with what you love. Make a list of all the things you’d like to have in your gardennot just the things you know you can affordeverything! Now go back and look over the list and see what qualities these things represent. How do they speak to you? How will these things elevate your existence? Perhaps, in real life, you can’t have the fabulous, eight-foot tall, hand carved statue of Kuan Yin you saw the other day, but there’s surely a way to incorporate the energy of the statue. Maybe it’s the large scale, or the smoothness of the stone coupled with the Goddess energy. Now, how can you bring that into your own garden? Do you live in an apartment and long for the ocean? Try gathering some sea stones, sand and shells, and arrange them around a fountain. If you have a sunny window nearby, you can buy a beach rose (rosa rugosa) and put it in a beautiful pot to round out the scene.

In Feng Shui, we use the five elements to represent the different aspects of life. Wherever all five occur simultaneously, there is a sense of completion, unity and power. Try incorporating all the elements into your garden:

Element: Water
Represents: Reflection, Introspection, Flow, Soul Purpose
Use: Water itself, glass, crystal, mirrors, dark colors, asymmetrical shapes, northerly direction, the tortoise.

Element: Wood
Represents: Creativity, Strength, Growth, Health & Family
Use: All plants and flowers (including dried and silk), greens and blues, items made of wood, columnar shapes, easterly direction, the dragon.

Element: Fire
Represents: Inspiration, Joy, Emotion, Fame & Reputation, Abundance
Use: A fireplace, reds and red tones, lighting, candles, images of animas, things made of animals (bones, feathers, etc.), triangle, pyramid, cone, southerly direction, the phoenix.

Element: Earth
 Represents: Center, Solidity, Receptivity, Nurturing
Use: Soil, brick, ceramics, tile, stucco, yellows and earthtones, square and rectangular shapes, the center,

Element: Metal
Represents: Communication, Heaven, Helpful People & Travel
Use: All metals, rock and stone, natural crystals, white and pastels, arches, circles, ovals, westerly direction, the tiger.

As you can see, you have lots of choices and room for creativity. Again, choose what you find pleasing.

In Feng Shui, we understand that energy flows most harmoniously around smooth and curving shapes. Wherever possible, avoid sharp corners on walls, flower beds, etc. Don’t worry if you’ve just finished building neatly squared-off beds or walls. You can cut the points off of the corners, or place round pots of flowers where the points meet your most frequent path of movement. Soft, flowing greenery can be planted to mitigate pointiness as well.

When do you have the most time to enjoy your garden? Is it early morning or in the evening after work? If you have the most time after dark, why not install some low voltage lighting and make a magical night garden where you can relax with candles and night-scented flowers? Do you enjoy traditional gardening: weeding, pruning, deadheading flowers? If you do, go for it. If not, be sure to use plants that are low maintenance and choose perennials over annuals. Perhaps you should consider ground covers instead of a big lawn. The one big “NO” in the garden is guilt. So create something that’s compatible with your personality. Your garden can and should be a sanctuary, a place to revitalize your body, your mind and your spirit.

One of the basic tenets of Feng Shui is that everything is constantly changing. If you have a garden that you see from inside your home, think about planning it for winter as well as summer beauty. Many plants are just as lovely without leaves as with them. Statuary and sculpture change their look as the backdrop of the garden changes, and evergreens remind us that life still exists, even in deepest February. Another thing to remember is that you are constantly changing as well. What thrilled you in your garden last year may not work at all for you this spring. Go ahead, move things around, trade plants with your friends, shake it up! You’re growing, you’re moving forward. And every year you have a fresh opportunity to see your beauty, your strength and your magnificence reflected back to you in your garden.

The Art Of Gutter Cleaning

Many homeowners clean their own gutters or hire someone each season to properly maintain their homes. What you may not realize is that most gutter systems should be cleaned 3-4 times a year with each season.

You may be wondering why should I clean out my gutters so often? The reason is each season trees go through various cycles that can clog up your gutters. In spring, most trees drop seedlings and dead twigs. Spring is also the best time to inspect your gutters for any damages that may have occurred during the winter snow. In summer, trees lose leaves from heavy storms and high winds. In early fall, you should remove leaves that have fallen early to keep your gutters flowing freely. At the end of fall or early winter, you want to make sure everything has been properly cleared from the gutter system to help prevent ice dams or buildup of ice in your gutters. The extra weight of frozen water in your gutters can easily cause them to pull away from the fascia and in many cases, fall off the house. Improper gutter maintenance will lead to clogged or damaged gutters and can cause thousands of dollars in damage to your homes foundation, exterior trim and basements.

To clean your gutters properly, rent a sturdy ladder and get your a neighbor to give you a hand. Ladders can be rented from most local rental centers for as little as $40.00 a day. When using ladders, make sure you stay away from power lines, trees and windows. It’s a good idea to use a ladder stabilizer to make sure the ladder doesn’t crush your gutters or slip while your doing the cleaning. Ladder stabilizers can be purchased at most hardware stores for about $30.00. Remember your safety is more important than clean gutters, so make sure you get someone to help you. Thousands of people die each year from falls and electrocution while working on ladders.

If you have gutter screens or gutter guards, make sure that they aren’t damaged or clogged with leaves and branches. They won’t help protect the gutters if the water can’t get into them properly and the water may just flow over them making them useless, even if the gutters are clean! Carefully lift the guards to avoid damaging them and remove any leaves or debris under them and then reinstall them properly. You should run water over them to make sure they are working properly. Check your downspouts to see if they have screens at the top and clear them as well. If necessary, use a hose to clear any heavily clogged downspouts and make sure you replace any damaged gutter or downspout screens. While cleaning your gutters, inspect them to make sure the fasteners are properly secured. This can usually be done with a hammer, or in some cases a screwdriver.

You may find that over time, the spikes that hold the aluminum to the fascia board have loosened. Either drive the loose spikes back into place, or replace them with longer ones for improved support. When gutters are loose, the pitch is changed and the water will overflow at low areas. Since you have help from your neighbor, this is also the perfect time to inspect your roof for missing shingles, cracked vent pipe gaskets or bare nails. Make sure you return the favor and help him or her on their house when you’re done.

Winter Gardening

As the end of summer approaches, unfortunately far too quickly, all is not lost for gardening with some great ideas on bringing a piece of your garden indoors and creating a winter garden.

Studies have shown that as the year progresses the less sunlight and more dreary days we have, the more depressed we feel. Of course one of the best ideas is to take a trip to a sunny hot location, but that not being a choice for all of us or even in addition to taking a holiday you can create a winter garden. And the great part is, winter gardening doesn’t need to take up a lot of room in your house or apartment, it can be created in many ways to give that boost when you need it most!

The space you make for yourself should, if at all possible include a comfortable chair and some place to keep your plants. You can also add a bright picture of outdoors and a lamp (see further down for the types of lamps you can use).

Terrarium gardens can be an inexpensive way to start your winter garden. Start with a clear fish tank or fishbowl, place some colorful rocks, stones or marbles at the bottom and then add your plants. Depending on the size of your container you can plant a variety of plants and flowers, or if you prefer you can plant some flower bulbs. It is recommended that you plant at least one or two bright colored flower, just because of the color enhancement.

A herb garden is another way to bring your garden indoors for the winter and can even be transplanted outdoors if you chose to do so. The advantage to having a herb garden is that you can add fresh herbs to your favorite recipes! Try to keep your herb garden where it is going to get some natural light if possible; a great place is a windowsill. Buy a container that will fit on your windowsill or multiple pots, allowing some room for root growth.

When choosing the lighting for your indoor garden, try to choose one that will give the maximum sunlight like quality. There are lamps available on the market that simulate daylight and are used for people that have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorders) they provide a natural sunlight for health and well being. Light therapy is an effective and safe treatment for SAD, and although it is not fully understood why, it is a great natural remedy and well worth trying. They are fairly inexpensive, starting around 50 dollars US.

Don’t think of summer coming to an end as the end of your gardening season; simply convert your summer garden outdoors to a piece of sunshine indoors with your winter garden.
